Military Board of Inquiry Attorney at Fort Campbell

Representing Commissioned Officers before the BOI Nationwide

In cases involving a commissioned military officer accused of misconduct or wrongdoing, the officer may be investigated by what is known as a Board of Inquiry, or BOI. These matters are generally administrative in nature and are often considered less serious than courts-martial; however, BOI proceedings can still lead to harsh consequences.

If you are an officer in the United States Armed Forces and have been accused of nonperformance of military duties, misconduct, or a similar offense, turn to The Law Office of Sean Flood PLLC. With extensive legal and military experience, our Fort Campbell Board of Inquiry lawyer can represent you throughout the entire process. Based near Clarksville, TN, we serve military service members at various military bases and installations across the U.S.

The BOI Process

BOIs consist of military officers who are senior to the officer subject to the hearing. The officer accused of misconduct is known as the “respondent,” while the officer who carries out the inquiry as a representative of the government is known as the “recorder.”

A BOI hearing may be initiated for any number of reasons, including but not limited to allegations of:

  • General misconduct
  • Failure to follow protocols
  • Failure to abide by standard operating procedures
  • Failure to perform duties
  • Underperformance of duties
  • Inability to lead/command

In many cases, such allegations are vague or frivolous. Nevertheless, the consequences can be severe. Following a BOI hearing, you may be placed under administrative separation and receive a general or other than honorable discharge. This can greatly impact your career and your reputation, as well as your future ability to receive veterans’ benefits.
